Terms of Use

Kander Books

Last updated 21 September 2026

By using Kander Books you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use it.

Kander Books is operated by Kander in Manitoba, Canada. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean that operator, and "you" means the person using the app.

1. What Kander Books is

A bookkeeping tool for Canadian trade contractors. You type in the money that comes in and the money you spend, and it keeps track of what you have earned, what is a cost, and roughly what to set aside for tax. It runs entirely on your own device. It is free.

2. It estimates. It never files, and it is not advice

This is the most important thing in this document.

Every tax figure Kander Books shows you is an estimate, worked out from what you typed, using published rates. It is not tax advice. It is not accounting advice. It is not a filing, and it never sends anything to the Canada Revenue Agency or to any province.

Your accountant decides, and the CRA is the authority. Do not file on the strength of a number this app shows you without having it checked. If the app and your accountant disagree, your accountant is right.

3. Your books are yours

We do not own your books and we do not have them. They stay on your device. You can export them, back them up, print them and delete them whenever you like, without asking us.

4. Backups are your responsibility, and this one is not boilerplate

Because your books live in your browser's storage, clearing your browsing data deletes them, and so does losing the device. We cannot recover them, because we never had a copy.

Use Save a backup file under You, and keep the file somewhere safe. If you do not, and your books disappear, they are gone.

5. Who can use it

You must be 18 or over, which is the age of majority in Manitoba. It is built around Canadian tax rules and is not intended for use outside Canada.

6. What you must not do

7. It is provided as it is

Kander Books is provided free and as it is, with no warranty of any kind. We do not promise that it will be available, that it will be free of faults, or that any figure it produces is correct for your situation.

8. What we are not liable for

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of Kander Books. That includes lost or deleted books, tax owed, interest, penalties, a rejected return, lost time, or lost business.

We are saying this plainly rather than burying it: this is a small operation, not a firm with an insurer behind it. The tool is free, it is genuinely useful, and the decisions that carry money belong to you and your accountant.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

9. It can change, and it can stop

We may change Kander Books, or stop offering it, at any time and without notice. If that happens, your books are still on your device and your backup files still open. This is exactly why section 4 exists.

10. If it ever costs money

Today there is no price, no subscription and no payment. If a paid version arrives, it will have its own terms covering price, cancellation and refunds, and you would be told before anything was charged.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Manitoba and the laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute goes to the courts of Manitoba.

There is no mandatory arbitration and no class-action waiver in these terms. That is a deliberate choice, and nothing here signs away your right to go to a court.

There is also no address to bring a problem to, which section 12 says plainly, so these terms do not ask you to come to us first. If a contact ever appears, it goes in section 12 and this section will say so.

Inside the app, anything that looks wrong with your own books goes to your accountant, the one you add under You. They can work from a backup file, which is your whole book.

12. Contact

There is no support address for Kander Books. There is no account, no payment and nothing held on a server, so there is nothing to chase and nobody to chase it from. If that changes, a contact goes here before it does.
